Why 101 in 1001 Days Challenge

I first came across the 101 in 1001 Days challenge through my friend Chipepo (thank you so much my Bum, this is the one time your clutter of screenshots saved me), who shared it on her Instagram stories. I was instantly intrigued, not just because it looked fun, but because it spoke directly to the part of me that loves challenges, checklists, to-do lists, and goal setting. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that planning and intentional living show up often in my writing, so taking part in this challenge felt like a no-brainer.

What I didn’t realize at the time was how significant this challenge would become.

I started my 101 in 1001 list during a season of my life where very little made sense. I was at one of my lowest points, and everything felt heavy and uncertain. The length of the challenge LONG, but not endless made it feel achievable, and in many ways, it became a quiet lifeline. At the time, I didn’t overthink it. I joined because it was structured, goal-oriented, and had a clear deadline. That was enough.

Intentional Pivoting

But after moving through a full year and some months of this challenge, I can say with confidence that it has been one of the most transformative things I’ve done. Almost without me realizing it, this list helped pull me out of a dark season and into a place of acceptance, presence, and intentional living.

It shifted me from merely existing to actively choosing how I show up in my own life.

Because of that, the 101 in 1001 Days challenge is something I hold very close. It’s a practice I fully intend to return to again and again. This is my first iteration, and when my friend and I initially created our lists, we genuinely wondered how people didn’t come close to finishing theirs. It didn’t take long for reality to humble us. Life happens often quietly, often passively and without intention, months can pass without meaningful action.

There was a point where more than six months had gone by and we had barely checked off a handful of items. Definitely nowhere near ten. That realization was a turning point. We decided to take this seriously not in a rigid or punishing way, but by intentionally weaving these goals into our daily lives. That shift made all the difference.

Watchlist

As I continue this challenge, my hope is to complete at least three-quarters of my list. Some of the goals I set are ambitious and a little intimidating, but that’s part of the point. This blog post marks my first official update, and I plan to share another one around the end of June 2026 to reflect on how far I’ve come and what this journey continues to teach me.

This challenge was never really about completing a list.

It was about learning how to choose my life with intention, even when things felt heavy, uncertain, or unfinished. Some of these items will be checked off quickly, others will take years, and a few may change entirely and I’m at peace with that. The real win has been showing up for myself, again and again, and allowing curiosity, joy, and courage to guide my decisions.

This list is simply a mirror of the life I’m building one deliberate choice at a time. If you decide to create your own 101 in 1001 Dyas list please let me know, I would love to check it out.
