The Weekly Edit – Issue #02

I can’t believe it’s already time for the second issue. Weirdly enough, the week went by so fast I can barely remember each individual day; they are kind of blurred into one long day. I think that’s partly because I’ve been all over the place:

  • working on my PhD,
  • moving back and forth Cape Town and
  • slowly starting to prepare for my research visit in Pisa next month.

I am not going to bore you with a long intro, so here is “The Weekly Edit – Issue #02” (I love that I went with this title; catch The Weekly Edit – Issue #01).

In My Ears

The albums

Just one this week. I settled on the 2026 release from Zayn – Konnakol (Deluxe). I didn’t listen to it deeply; it was more of a passive listen, background music while I got through my daily walk on Friday, but there were a few memorable tracks in there. That’s the album of the week.

The Podcasts

I barely got any in this week, probably only two or three. And three is a very low number for me. Anyway, it was a busy week; so glad I was still able to listen to a few. I stayed with the same theme as last week, but I want to explore and listen to something different.

Two were from What Now? with Trevor Noah, started with the episode with Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados.

Then moved on to a fun conversation with Will Sylvince.

The third podcast was the Kind Regards with Zamiwe Mwape. Its a shame they aren’t a lot of episodes but I know I will listen to every single one.

On repeat. Song of the week.

Body on Me” by Rita Ora, featuring Chris Brown. I love it so much that it made me think of starting dancing classes next year. It has a really good groove.

Currently Reading

I just finished The Apothecary Diaries, Vol. 9, and I’m excited to finally get into Vol. 10 (which I have already started). From the look of things I might be able to finish Vol. 10 by the end of the week, but it’s going to be a busy one, so we’ll see how far I get.

Picture of the Week

This week it’s actually more of a mini video: a short clip I took of a dandelion. They’re one of my absolute favourite things to find in nature. There’s something so whimsical about them. The way you blow on them and the little seeds all lift off and scatter. I love that effect. So this week, that’s my picture (well, video) of the week.

What’s Sticking

Showing up. Starting my days whenever I actually get to start them, rather than writing the whole day off just because it’s already 11am and telling myself I can’t get anything done now. Sitting down at my desk regardless of the time and doing as much work on my PhD as I can.

That’s what’s been sticking this week: “showing up”, and I’m proud of it.

On My Mind

Quite a lot, honestly. I feel like I’ve fallen off the waggon a bit with my fitness. Mostly the food and health side of it. My strength is slowly coming back, and I know I’ll be fully back into it in under two months. The great news is I think I know how to get back to eating healthy, but with my upcoming trip to Pisa, I will have to settle for balance because I want to enjoy the local cuisine for every country I visit. And that includes cheesecake 🤣🤣.

Wild Card

Nothing unexpected this week… Although I think this one earns the wild card slot: my skin is smooth and glowing right now, and I absolutely love that for me. It’s a small thing, but it’s made me really, really happy.

I hope you had a wonderful week, and I hope the week ahead is a lovely one.

As always, send me anything you’re listening to, the podcasts on your radar, or whatever you’re thinking about. Basically, whatever’s currently occupying your brain.

See you next week 😊.
